Victor J. Navarro, MD
PHILADELPHIA (October 1, 2012) - Victor J. Navarro, MD, a nationally recognized specialist in liver disease and transplants, has joined Einstein Healthcare Network as Chair of the Division of Hepatology. Dr. Navarro was designated a 2012 Top Doc both by U.S. News & World Report and Philadelphia Magazine.
"Dr. Navarro is an exceptional physician with an extraordinary knowledge of liver disease," said Steven Sivak, MD, Paul J. Johnson Chairman of Medicine at Einstein." A physician of his experience and stature will be invaluable to patients and his leadership will be invaluable to our growing hepatology practice."
Dr. Navarro's prominence has been recognized by numerous awards from his peers, including the Physician of the Year Award in 2006 from the Delaware Valley Chapter of the American Liver Foundation." He possesses an unswerving knowledge of liver disease, which when coupled with his keen intuition, compassionate nature and profound vision, sets him apart from his colleagues nationwide," the foundation's executive director said at the time.
Dr. Navarro said Einstein's academic environment will permit me to continue and expand my National Institutes of Health funded studies in drug-induced liver disease, focusing on liver injury resulting from dietary supplements. Additionally, I have the chance to develop new research programs that will shape the future of our field, and also give other faculty members the opportunity to grow and develop their own scholarly careers.
"The leadership of Einstein Medical Center and I share a common vision for growth of the Division of Liver Disease and Transplantation," he said. "Through a joint commitment to patient satisfaction, high quality care measured by defined outcomes, and research in liver diseases and transplantation, Einstein will maintain an enduring presence and continue to shape the landscape of liver care and transplantation in Philadelphia and throughout the region."
Most recently, Dr. Navarro was medical director of the Hepatology and Liver Transplantation Program at Thomas Jefferson University, as well as program director of the Transplant Hepatology Fellowship and director of the Jefferson Liver Tumor Center. He graduated from Dickinson College and received his medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine.
