The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Albert Einstein Medical Center has created an innovative partnering with Abington
Reproductive Medicine, a highly successful, academic-oriented private group of board certified reproductive endocrinologists.
This group of specialists comprise our faculty in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI).
Abington Reproductive Medicine sees over 1,500 new infertility and endocrine patients a year, performs over 1,000 laparoscopic,
hysteroscopic, and abdominal surgeries a year and performs over 500 IVF cycles per year. The practice offers a complete gynecologic
endocrinology consultation clinic where several hundred patients are seen annually and is one of the few infertility groups
in the region offering on-site pre-implantation genetic diagnosis.
Each PGY-3 resident rotates through this practice for 12 weeks, six weeks full time and an additional six weeks for three
days per week devoted solely to advanced laparoscopic surgery. Residents actively participate in the care of all patients
in the practice in both the outpatient office and surgical center settings. They are also given opportunity to join in scholarly
activities of the REI faculty, including co-authorship of papers and studies and book chapters, including several chapters
in Dr. Somkuti's new textbook, Obstetrics and Gynecology: Pearls of Wisdom. Specific chapter and article conferences are conducted by the group with the resident on a regular basis during the rotation,
and the faculty provides a structured lecture series on the main campus on a monthly basis in the CREOG objectives and organized
about a major textbook.
