Paley Ob/Gyn Associates
Paley Ob/Gyn Associates is the private office practice of the Ob/Gyn residents. In this ambulatory setting, patients are provided
the full scope of primary obstetrics and gynecology care. Within this environment, residents learn a modern multidisciplinary
team approach to women’s health care. Each resident has office hours one half-day per week (except when on night float) and
follows a panel of patients over all four years of training.
All senior residents have their own patient panels; PGY-1 residents team with a PGY-4 resident for initial intensive
work in office skills. When a PGY-4 resident graduates, the PGY-1 resident with whom he or she is teamed assumes the panel
of patients. There are also specialty care clinics, including high-risk obstetrics (maternal-fetal medicine), colposcopy,
and family planning. The office has state-of-the-art transvaginal ultrasound and video colposcopy systems, as well as systems
for cryotherapy and LEEP cervical conization.

18,000 Office Visits Annually
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has a total of fourteen physician office practices which see over 56,000 patient
visits annually. Paley Ob/Gyn Associates (Resident Office) sees approximately 18,000 patient visits per year.
The number of patients to be seen in a resident continuity office and the High Risk Obstetric Clinic is set to balance the
need for patient care and quality resident education. For example, senior residents (PGY-4, PGY-3 and PGY-2) are scheduled
to see, respectively, 10, 8, and 6 patients in a typical three hour morning continuity office.
Care is structured in 10 half-day office sessions per week with the following schedule:

Continuity Office
The primary care continuity clinics are required of all Ob/Gyn residents. PGY-1 residents see patients with the PGY-4 resident
as their introduction into the practice and to assist in the rapid development of their ambulatory skills. At the end of the
year, the PGY-1 resident will "pickup" the practice of their PGY-4 partner, thereby creating continuity for patients.
Colposcopy
There is a colposcopy clinic one session per week precepted by Dr. Charles Beckmann; colposcopy also is integrated into all
clinics. Dr. Beckmann provides training in cyrotherapy and Dr Philip Horn provides training in LEEP conization.
High Risk Obstetrics
Patients with complex, high-risk obstetric or medical problems are followed in MFM/High Risk Obstetrics clinic under the supervision
of the PGY-4 MFM Resident and the faculty of the Division of Maternal and Fetal Medicine.
Family Planning
Residents learn to provide the full range of contraceptive options, including barrier contraception, oral contraception,
parenteral contraception, intrauterine devices, diaphragms, vaginal rings, transdermal contraception, and natural family planning.
Residents also learn to counsel patients about permanent sterilization and to perform tubal sterilization procedures.

Resident Experience
