Arnold W. Cohen, MD
Welcome to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at Albert Einstein Medical Center. As you explore our residency
program web site, I hope you gain an in-depth understanding of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology's commitment to
patient care, education, research and scholarship.
Albert Einstein Medical Center, located in North Philadelphia, is the largest community-based academic medical center in the
region. Einstein was originally founded at the end of the Civil War as Philadelphia's Jewish Hospital with a mission to care
for the disenfranchised beyond the Jewish community - to care for all persons in need regardless of their race, nationality
or creed. For over one hundred years, our legacy of caring has remained the same even as the hospital has grown from a 20-bed
facility into a major full-service academic healthcare network sponsoring 23 accredited residency and fellowship training
programs and over 350 residents. As a major affiliate to Thomas Jefferson University/Jefferson Medical College, we continuously
provide clinical training experiences for over 400 Jefferson medical students annually.
I would encourage you to browse the About Einstein and Einstein Highlights sections of the Residency/Education site to learn more about the broad scope of our Network and its programs. Of special
interest for applicants interested in obstetrics and gynecology residency training is our recently renovated Emergency Department,
a state-of-the-art facility and Level I Trauma Center, which sees over 75,000 patients annually and provides ample educational
opportunities and exposure to obstetric and gynecologic cases.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology operates upon a foundation of excellence in patient care. Two advanced antepartum
testing units and a new electronic medical records system are at the forefront of our ability to provide excellent clinical
care to our patients. Active programs of scholarship and research complement the clinical experience and include a new surgical
teaching laboratory.
Please take a moment to review our entire residency program and call, write or send e-mail if you have any questions. We look
forward to having residents who are as excited about learning as we are about being able to teach and work at Einstein. Information
on how to contact our program may be found in the Application Information section.
