  • Tending to your baby 24/7 at a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

If your baby arrives prematurely, you will want the most comprehensive care available. Einstein specializes in the management of babies with conditions resulting from prematurity, birth defects, and complications of pregnancy, labor and delivery. Our NICU nurseries are staffed round-the-clock with neonatologists and are conveniently located in the same area as labor and delivery.

Both NICU nurseries - at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia and Einstein Medical Center Montgomery's Arthur and Lea Powell Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - can care for babies delivered at early gestation. Should your baby need specialized surgery, our neonatologists have partnerships with major childrens’ hospitals in the Philadelphia area to ensure your baby gets the best and most sophisticated care available.

We have been certified as a Level III designation by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The level III designation is granted to hospitals capable of providing acute care.

    Focus on the Family

With a key focus on family, parental touch is encouraged at the NICU. Einstein’s NICU care team will work in partnership with the families to provide kangaroo care for your baby. Kangaroo care involves you or your partner holding your baby to your chest for skin-to-skin contact between parent and child. The ways that kangaroo benefits your baby are:

    • Regulating breathing and heart rates
    • Maintaining body warmth
    • Promoting better sleep, weight gain and less crying
