Pregnancy Support

  • “You get to hear other people’s stories and share. It’s more personal."
--Rasheeda Bagwell-Kale, 32, mother of two and CenteringPregnancy participant

    What is CenteringPregnancy?

CenteringPregnancy is a new option in prenatal care that helps you make healthy choices for your baby as you get to know other moms-to-be in a casual, group setting. Read a story about our program in the Philadelphia Inquirer and watch a news clip to see how the program helps prevent premature births.

    How It Works

    • You will participate in 10 sessions, held once a month in the beginning and twice a month as you get closer to your due date.
    • All sessions start and end on time so you can fit them in with work, school or child care. A partner, family member or friend can come with you.
    • Each meeting will include a speaker who will lead a group discussion on a featured topic
    • You’ll get a CenteringPregnancy notebook that gives you lots of helpful information to track your health, progress and baby’s growth.
    • Each session begins with a private prenatal exam with your group’s healthcare provider - no need for separate doctor’s office visits!
    • Light refreshments are served at each meeting
    • Once you deliver, you’re welcome to come back with your baby and share experiences about adjusting to life with a newborn.

What You Will Gain From Our Program

You will learn to take charge of your pregnancy through:

    • Tracking your baby’s growth and your pregnancy progress
    • Recording your blood pressure and weight
    • Gaining a support system and friends
    • Sharing similar emotional and physical concerns and questions
    • Learning from each others’ experiences

Studies show a supportive approach to pregnancy may:

    • Help you make healthier choices for yourself and your growing family
    • Lower your risk of going into labor too early
    • Make it easier to give your baby the advantages of breastfeeding
