We appreciate and welcome your interest in the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at Albert Einstein Medical Center in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
"Resident Education" is the guiding principle in the Department of Orthopaedics at Albert Einstein Medical Center. The dynamics
of the educational goals and objectives for the residency program are directed towards the development of an exceptional physician.
The program provides strong experience in adult and pediatric general orthopaedics in addition to many subspecialty areas
such as joint replacement and reconstructive surgery, arthroscopy, sports medicine, spine, orthopaedic trauma, hand, elbow,
shoulder, hip, knee, foot and ankle and neuromuscular disorders. The residents are offered invaluable education experience
through their rotation schedule which provides them with the opportunity of spending the majority of their time one-on-one
with an attending physician on his/her service.
Research is an integral part of the resident experience. A dedicated research rotation of two months is a requirement of
the educational curriculum. Faculty and residents are active in clinical and basic science research projects. Basic Science
research takes place at Albert Einstein Medical Center in the Orthopaedic Surgery Basic Science laboratory under the directorship
of S. Praveen Samuel, D.Eng.
Albert Einstein Medical Center residents are offered the breadth and depth of training available only at a major teaching
medical center. As a Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center, the institution provides an exceptional opportunity to evaluate
and treat major orthopaedic trauma. Orthopaedic residents gain additional residency training through our long-standing affiliations
with several nationally and internationally renowned orthopaedic and rehabilitation facilities.
Our fully accredited categorical five-year program accepts two residents per year. As individuals, the Albert Einstein Medical
Center resident is as diverse in race, gender, educational background and thought as can be found. They are valued members
of the Department.
We feel that the greatest strength of the Orthopaedic Surgery Program here at Albert Einstein Medical Center is its RESIDENTS.
Through the purchase of surgical telescopes for the junior residents, department sponsorship of resident attendance at orthopaedic
conferences, department purchase of the latest in literature for the resident library, and the latest in computer equipment
and software, we strive to make the resident experience at Albert Einstein Medical Center an optimal, unique and challenging
educational experience.
