The program covers all of the theoretical approaches and treatment modalities including psychodynamic individual adult, child
and adolescent therapy, as well as group, family, behavioral, psychopharmacological and hospital consultation-liaison psychiatry.
We provide a supportive atmosphere for residents, encouraging the development of psychotherapy skills and their practical
applications. We also prepare residents for the practice of psychiatry in a managed care environment. Our focus on practical
applications of psychotherapy principles includes an extensive demonstration of dynamic psychotherapy during the last two
years of training. Grand Rounds include weekly lectures by locally and nationally renowned experts on all aspects of contemporary
psychiatry.
Individual clinical supervision remains the cornerstone of the educational program, and residents receive a minimum of three
hours of supervision per week, with additional supervision in subspecialty areas. You will train with an accomplished staff
headed by Michael J. Vergare, MD, Chairman, Department of Psychiatry; Marc Zisselman, MD, Associate Chair, Department of Psychiatry;
and Lawrence Real, MD, Medical Director, Belmont Center for Comprehensive Treatment.
