Our Cultural Issues Program addresses the cultural, ethnic and religious diversity of both patients and residents alike, with
preorientation focused on the American hospital system and the doctor-patient relationship. Introductory seminars to ethnic
groups and religious organizations are held as are introductory and advanced seminars on the influence of cultural factors
in psychotherapy. A program addressing the role of language and jargon in treatment is held. The cultural issues curriculum
helps integrate the evaluation and treatment of patients from diverse backgrounds as well as broadening the scope of therapeutic
skills of each resident. The cultural issues curriculum extends from the orientation film series to advanced course work addressing
the impact of cultural issues on psychotherapy.
