Bariatric surgery is a procedure to reduce the size of the stomach in people who are obese in order to promote weight loss. Bariatric surgeons use one of three methods: removing a portion of the stomach, implanting a band that restricts the size of the stomach, or surgically bypassing a portion of the stomach.
