
H. Hank Simms, MD, is Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Residency Program Director. Dr. Simms is board certified in general surgery
and surgical critical care and is Professor of Surgery at Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Simms received his medical degree
from George Washington University and completed his surgical internship at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA, and his junior
residency in trauma at San Francisco General Hospital in California. He spent one year at the Royal Cornwall Hospital England
as a registrar in general surgery. Dr. Simms completed his surgical residency training at Beth Israel Hospital where he served
as both Chief Resident and Surgical Coordinator. He went on to complete a fellowship in trauma surgery and critical care
medicine at Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems and completed a research fellowship at the National
Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Laboratory of Clinical Investigation, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda,
MD.
Dr. Simms came to Albert Einstein Medical Center from North Shore-Long Island Jewish Medical Center where he served as Chairman
and Surgeon-in-Chief of the Department of Surgery. Dr. Simms also held the position of John D. Mountain Professor of Surgery,
New York University School of Medicine and Professor of Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Simms is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Richard H. Greenberg, MD, is the Director of Surgical Education, Director of the Outpatient Surgical Clinics and Director of Surgical Endoscopy for the Department
of Surgery. He also serves as President of the Albert Einstein Medical Center Medical Staff Board. Dr. Greenberg is board certified in surgery and colon and rectal surgery and is Associate Professor of Surgery at Jefferson
Medical College.
Dr. Greenberg received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and completed his general surgery internship at Milton
S. Hershey Medical Center and residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Immediately following residency, he completed a
fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Ferguson Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. Dr. Greenberg has worked tirelessly over
the years to help create a structured educational program for our residents. He also serves as a trauma surgeon and Advanced
Trauma Life Support (ATLS) instructor.
