Urology

  • Einstein Healthcare Network is home to the new Urologic Institute of Southeastern Pennsylvania, headed by Top DocRobert G. Uzzo, M.D. and Daniel Canter, M.D. We care for the urinary tracts of male and female patients, as well as the male reproductive system.

    Expert Care and Specialized Techniques

Highly trained doctors. All of our physicians have advanced fellowship training to learn and apply the latest innovations in urologic care.

Minimally invasive surgery. Our team has collectively performed thousands of urologic surgeries using the da Vinci Surgical System. This robotic surgery allows the surgeon to avoid vital nerves and vessels that surround the prostate without affecting urinary control or sexual function. In kidney surgery, the da Vinci Surgical System provides the precision needed to preserve maximum renal function.

Robotic surgery results in less pain, decreases blood loss during surgery and often reduces time in the hospital by requiring only one- or two-night stays.

We offer robotic surgery for many genitourinary cancers and non-cancerous conditions:

    • Prostatectomy - surgical removal or resection of the prostate
    • Partial nephrectomy - surgical removal of the diseased part of a kidney, while preserving the healthy kidney
    • Cystectomy - surgical excision of the urinary bladder
    • Pyeloplasty - reconstruction of the ureter for congenital blockage of the kidney
    • Nephroureterectomy - surgical removal of kidney and ureter
    • Lymphadenectomy - removal or sampling of lymph nodes
    • Adrenalectomy - removal of adrenal gland

Neobladder. We are one of the few hospitals that creates a neobladder out of patients’ intestines following cystectomy (bladder removal surgery).

Button Procedure for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). Einstein is one of the few healthcare networks to perform this prostate-reducing procedure that opens up the urinary channel of the prostate by vaporizing the enlarged prostate tissue in a safer manner that results in less blood loss.

    Specialized treatment:

Comprehensive network. We ensure that patients who are diagnosed at Einstein get seamless care in network, be it for traumatic brain injuries that lead to loss of bladder control; physical therapy following pelvic prolapse; or second opinions and cancer consultations.
