Dr. Vergare was appointed Chairman of Psychiatry at Thomas Jefferson University on November 1, 1998. He is also the Chairman
of the Department of Psychiatry at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia and Belmont Behavioral Health since July
1, 1995. Prior to that, he served as Associate Chairman for the Department of Psychiatry at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia
since January, 1984. He has served as Deputy Chair and Professor of Psychiatry at the Temple School of Medicine, Vice-president
of the AEMC medical staff, President of the District Branch of the Psychiatric Physicians of Pennsylvania and President of
the Philadelphia Psychiatric Society, among other offices. He currently serves on the board of the Governor’s Advisory Board
and OHMSAS. Dr. Vergare received his BA from LaSalle College in Philadelphia and his MD from Hahnemann Medical College and
Hospital where he also completed his residency training. He is board certified in general psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry
and administrative psychiatry. His special interests include community psychiatry, medical education, and the interface of
physical and psychiatric disorders.
