Gutman Diabetes Institute

In January 2001, Albert Einstein Healthcare Network established the Gutman Diabetes Institute to provide comprehensive diabetes services. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life for those with diabetes and those at-risk for developing the disease.

With 15 years of diabetes education experience, Nadine Uplinger, MS, RD, CDE, serves as Director, Gutman Diabetes Institute. She earned her master’s of science degree in health education and a bachelor’s of science degree in nutrition services management. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association, Philadelphia Dietetic Association and American Diabetes Association, and serves as the president of Triade, an association of diabetes educators in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Uplinger and three certified diabetes educators consult approximately 100 people with diabetes per month. In addition to diabetes programs for the community, they also offer a disease management program for people who are admitted through Albert Einstein Medical Center’s Emergency Department. Once the patient consents, a certified diabetes educator maintains phone contact with that person for one year to ensure the proper management of their diabetes.
