Choosing a Heart Program

Does the heart center provide a full range of services?
Yes. There's more than one way to treat heart disease, so it’s important that your heart center provide a complete range of diagnostic and treatment options, as Einstein Institute for Heart and Vascular Health does.

Hospitals with a wide range of services can treat more complex heart problems. They are also better equipped to handle problems that can arise from related conditions.

As part of Albert Einstein Medical Center, we also offer access to hundreds of doctors experienced in a full range of specialties.

What are the risks of heart procedures?
Every surgical procedure involves some risk. That risk increases with age, serious illness, other conditions such as diabetes, or the need for multiple procedures at once. Ask your doctor about specific risks related to your procedure given your age and degree of illness.

You should consult outside organizations to find statistics on a hospital’s mortality (death) rate for certain procedures. Einstein’s mortality rates are well within the “expected” range of deaths due to heart surgery complications.
