Other Dialysis Services
Hemodialysis at Home
Hemodialysis uses an artificial kidney to remove waste, chemicals and fluid from the blood. Einstein Medical Center is in
the process of setting up a Daily Home Hemodialysis (DHHD) Program and is looking forward to being the first hospital in the
Philadelphia area to offer this service. Home hemodialysis training is very extensive and takes four to six weeks.
Hemodialysis at the Hospital
Hemodialysis is available for inpatients at Albert Einstein Medical Center. For outpatient dialysis, we can make referrals
to several dialysis centers in the area.
Anemia Management Program
The medical center now offers an Anemia Management Program that enables home dialysis patients to come to the medical center
for injections of Procrit, Epogen or Aranesp to treat anemia.
When kidneys fail due to Chronic Kidney Disease, patients often become anemic. Anemia is a low level of red blood cells, which
causes people to feel extremely fatigued and have shortness of breath. The injections increase red blood cell production,
which can slow the progression of kidney disease.
Outpatient Nephrology Services
People with kidney disease can come to Einstein Medical Center for outpatient services, which include check-ups with a nephrologist,
nephrology nurse, dietitian and social worker. Patients may schedule an initial consultation and can return on a regular basis
for follow-up visits.
