Home Dialysis Training
Education is the most important component for a successful home dialysis program. If you are accepted into the program, you
will receive training in the dialysis unit Monday through Friday for seven to ten days until you feel competent to do the
treatment on your own. You must do your own treatment without any supervision for a few days before you are given the green
light to do the therapy at home.
In addition, you and your dialysis partner (if applicable) will receive a comprehensive one-on-one, six to seven-hour training
on peritoneal dialysis. The training nurse will visit you on your first day of dialysis at home. Additional visits are scheduled
as necessary.
We also provide ongoing, follow-up educational sessions when you come to the Outpatient Home Dialysis Clinic for follow-up
visits, as well as by telephone when questions and issues arise. A home dialysis nurse is on-call after office hours, seven
days a week, 365 days a year in case you have a concern about your dialysis therapy.
