Victor Araya, MD, FACG, AGAF

Victor Araya, MD, FACG, AGAF is the current Acting Chairman of Hepatology and the Medical Director of the Liver Transplant
Program. He is board-certified in gastroenterology and hepatology and is an expert in the management of chronic hepatitis
C infection, the most recent antiviral therapies, and liver transplantation. Dr. Araya has 15 years of experience as a hepatologist
and is active in resident and fellow education at Albert Einstein Medical Center.
Dr. Araya earned his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. His postdoctoral
training included an internal medicine residency at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a fellowship in Gastroenterologyand
Hepatology from the University of Florida, Gainesville. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Araya was an Assistant Professor
of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh and served as a transplant hepatologist. He was also the Director of the Clinical
Trials Unit in the Division of Transplantation Medicine and theDirector of their Out Reach Program.
Dr. Araya is dedicated to providing effective patient care in all areas of pre- and post-transplant hepatology, including
post-transplantation hepatitis recurrence.
Currently the director of the Center for Liver Disease Clinical Trials Unit, Dr. Araya is the principal investigator in several
ongoing clinical research trials involving pre- and post-transplant viral hepatitis, hepatic encephalopathy, and acute liver
failure. He has also published many articles as well as authored and co-authored several articles in these areas. His research
has also been presented at national meetings.
Eyob L. Feyssa, MD, MPH

Eyob L. Feyssa, MD, MPH is board certified in internal medicine and specializes in hepatology. His other interests include
liver cancer and liver transplant.
After earning his medical degree from Jimma Institute of Health Sciences in Ethiopia, and a Master’s degrees in Public Health
from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, Dr. Feyssa completed his residency at the Harbor Hospital Center in Baltimore, MD
and a fellowship in hepatology at Sammy Davis Jr. National Liver Institute of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of
New Jersey.
Dr. Feyssa is a co-investigator in several ongoing clinical trials at Einstein, including studies of acute liver failure,
an RNAi-based therapy for chronic hepatitis B, and the efficacy and long-term safety and tolerability of rifaximin in subjects
with a history of hepatic encephalopathy.
Ashraf Malek, MD

Ashraf Malek, MD has a special interest in chronic viral hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, cirrhosis
of the liver and post transplant immunosuppression. He is board certified in internal medicine and specializes in hepatology.
Dr. Malek earned his medical degree from the Sir Salimullah Medical College in Bangladesh. He completed his internship at
Long Island College Hospital and fellowship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Liver Center.
