Frank Garger of Whitehall, Pennsylvania, has defied the odds of his survival ever since developing liver disease at age 3. That’s when his parents were told that their toddler would be unlikely to live through his teens. Today, Frank is married, the father of two sons, and keeps pace with a schedule that would exhaust most people. “I’ve been cheating death for 38 years,” says Frank. “When I got sick in the 70s, my dad wanted to donate a portion of his liver. Unfortunately though, the science of transplantation surgery was only in its infancy back then.”
