The Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Program at Albert Einstein Medical Center teaches women about their chance of developing
breast and ovarian cancer.
Additionally, participants have the option to undergo genetic testing as well as to enroll in breast cancer prevention trials
(if eligible) and our High Risk Follow-up Program.
How to Participate
Participation in the Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Program only requires two appointments:
-
Visit One: Getting to Know You
During your first visit, our genetic counselors will talk to you about your personal and/or family history of breast and/or
ovarian cancer. They will explain the basic principles of cancer genetics and discuss the pros and cons of genetic testing.
A breast surgeon will conduct a breast examination and review any previous mammograms. If you choose to have genetic testing,
our team will facilitate it for you.
-
Visit Two: A Personal Plan of Action
When your test results are available (in about one month), our genetic counselors and breast surgeon will meet with you to
discuss the results and to recommend potential prevention options and/or a regular plan of monitoring by professional breast
health experts.
