Breast cancer is considered advanced if it has spread beyond the breast. If you have advanced breast cancer, you may be eligible
for the following clinical trial offered at Albert Einstein Cancer Center:
BP-58
BP-58 is a study that will evaluate the effectiveness of the combination of three chemotherapy drugs in patients with metastatic
or locally advanced breast cancer. The drugs being evaluated in BP-58 are adriamycin (doxorubicin), taxotere (docetaxel) and
cyclophosphamide.
Women with stage IIIB or IV breast cancer may be eligible for the study. Women with stage IIIB and IV breast cancer may include:
- women who are experiencing a recurrence of breast cancer;
- women who have breast cancer that has spread beyond the breast and lymph nodes; and
- women with inoperable breast cancer.
Previous studies have shown that chemotherapy treatments can reduce the size and improve control of stage IIIB and IV breast
cancers.
The purpose of BP-58 is to study how stage IIIB and IV breast cancer responds to treatment with doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide
when a third drug, docetaxel, is added to the treatment regimen. All three are already FDA approved and commonly used for
the treatment of breast cancer.
BP-58 is a study of the
National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP).
