Albert Einstein Medical Center is conducting a study to measure the impact that education, health screenings and genetic counseling
have on menopausal women and their decisions about hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
As part of the study, Einstein is offering a free program–the Comprehensive Risk Assessment Program for Menopausal Women–to
help women and their doctors weigh personal health benefits against the risks of taking HRT.
HRT, believed to be protective against heart disease, America's number one killer, and osteoporosis, the bone-thinning disease,
has become controversial in recent years because of its association with breast cancer.

According to breast surgeon Lisa Jablon, MD, Director of Einstein's High Risk Breast Program, there may be a slight increased
risk of breast cancer in women who take HRT for more than five or 10 years. But, for most women, the benefits clearly seem
to outweigh the risks.
Study participants receive free genetics, menopause and nutrition counseling as well as free screenings for osteoporosis,
heart disease and breast cancer. To participate, women must be nearing, experiencing or passed menopause and have a family
history of breast cancer.
The program is funded by a grant from the Albert Einstein Society.
