John C. Leighton, MD - Division Chair

Dr. Leighton is a graduate of the Einstein Internal Medicine Residency Program. He completed his fellowship in hematology-oncology at Temple University Hospital-Fox Chase Cancer Center and returned to Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia in 1995 to join the full-time faculty. Dr. Leighton serves as principal investigator for Gastrointestinal Malignancy clinical trials performed at the Einstein Cancer Center. He is the recipient of the 1999 Chief Residents' Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching and a 1999 Faculty Council Teaching Award.



Claudia Dourado, MD – Program Director

Dr. Dourado received her Medical Degree in Brazil. She completed her Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at MCP/Hahnemann University. She completed her Fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center of University Hospitals of Cleveland and Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Dourado, who is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology, joined the faculty in 2008.


Minal Dhamankar, MD

Dr. Dhamankar is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with a focus on hematology and medical oncology. Dr. Dhamankar attended JMF's A.C.P.M. Medical College, where she earned her bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery degree. She pursued her internship and residency in internal medicine from Lankenau Medical Center, where she also completed her fellowship in hematology and oncology. She is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Medical Council of India, and the American Society of Hematology.


Madiha Gilani, MD

Dr. Gilani completed her fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Internal Medicine Residency at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ, now Rutgers). She also served as Chief Resident at her residency program. Dr. Gilani received her medical degree from Baqai Medical University, Pakistan. Prior to coming to the U.S., she spent a few years training in the Internal Medicine Foundation Program at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital in U.K.


Gabor Varadi, MD

Dr. Gabor Varadi received his medical degree from Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine and a hematology/oncology fellowship at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He is board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology. He joined the Einstein faculty in 2008.


Mitchell Goldstein, MD

Dr. Goldstein completed his hematology/oncology fellowship at the Cardeza Foundation for Hematologic Research at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and his internal medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Goldstein joined the Division of Hematology/Oncology in 2004.


Mark Morginstin, DO

Dr. Morginstin completed his internal medicine residency training at Einstein where he also served as chief medical resident. He was awarded the Peter Mazzoni Memorial Award for humanism, integrity and compassion at the end of his internal medicine residency. Dr. Morginstin completed a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the University of Connecticut Health Center. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Humanitarian Service Medal and the Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service from the United States Air Force.
