Einstein Institute of Heart & Vascular Health is a top facility for the treatment of irregular heartbeats and arrhythmias, a field known as Electrophysiology. Our electrophysiologists are leaders in the field and recognized as among Philadelphia's Top Docs for treating complex disorders such as atrial fibrillation and supraventricular tachycardia.

WHAT IS IRREGULAR HEARTBEAT OR ARRHYTHMIA?
Like the circuitry in a house, your heart has an electrical system that causes it to beat. When the system is damaged or sick, the heart can slow down, speed up, or short circuit, a condition called an arrhythmia.
- Racing heart
- Heart palpitations
- Passing out unexpectedly
IRREGULAR HEARTBEAT OR ARRHYTHMIA CAN BE CAUSED BY
- Coronary artery disease
- Heart failure
- Electrolyte imbalances in your blood
- Changes in your heart muscle
- Injury from a heart attack
- Healing process after heart surgery
Irregular heartbeats and arrhythmia can be a caused by a number of factors. Sometimes simple lifestyle changes can help control symptoms. But often palpitations can represent a more serious problem. Arrhythmias are the number one killer in the United States, above heart attacks, stroke and cancer. They are also the number one cause of preventable stroke.
Einstein offers the latest, cutting-edge treatments to diagnose, control and even cure arrhythmias. Treatments offered at Einstein include catheter ablation of supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation (AFIB), and ventricular tachycardia; and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), pacemakers, implantable loop recorders, and biventricular-devices. Einstein offers the most advanced MRI compatible devices. In addition, Einstein has one of the region’s largest experiences with the advanced heart failure Cardiomems device and left atrial appendage closure for the prevention of stroke associated with atrial fibrillation. Einstein is the only center in Philadelphia using advanced imaging to minimize or completely eliminate the need for xray (fluoroscopy) during catheter ablation procedures.
Einstein is a leader in electrophysiology, both regionally and nationally. Our reputation as a leader allows us access to the latest technology, often before other centers in the area. Over the last few years we have been the first hospital in the region to use ground-breaking technologies such as force-sensing ablation catheters, the Cardiomems heart failure monitoring device, the left atrial appendage device implantation (Watchman®), the subcutaneous ICD, multipoint left ventricular pacing (MPP) and other technologies.
In addition, Einstein is involved in numerous clinical trials including LAPTOP-HF, MULTISENSE, SENSE, ACUITY-LSR, ECHO-CRT and more. Einstein also has a large internal research program that has led to a number of breakthroughs that have changed the way physicians treat heart disease.
