The physicians in Einstein's Division of Plastic and reconstructive Surgery are leaders in using the most advanced, gentle laser treatment on spider veins, red or brown sun spots and pigment changes associated with sun exposure and aging.
How Does Laser Therapy Work?
Aging and sun damage usually results in skin changes that include tiny red blood vessels on the on the cheeks or nose area, flat red, black or brown spots on the face or hands, and uneven skin texture. We use an advanced laser with a powerful multi-function laser that quickly and comfortably treats pigment changes on the skin.
The laser uses computer-controlled intense pulsed light (IPL) to penetrate the skin and treating only the targeted areas, eliminating pigmented spots and shrinking tiny spider veins. The procedure stimulates healthy new collagen, which is vital to skin elasticity.
You will be seated in a reclining chair and your doctor will thoroughly cleanse the skin to be treated. You will wear special goggles to protect your eyes from the intense beam of laser light. Your doctor will use a pencil-thin hand piece to direct a beam of laser light to the area to be treated. Treatment sessions usually last between 15 and 20 minutes. Typically, treatments can be accomplished in one to two sessions.
What Can I Expect During and After the Procedure?
Your physician will provide you with detailed information about your procedure, but in general:
- During treatment you may feel a slight stinging sensation.
- Following the treatment you may experience some redness, which usually goes away in 2 to 4 hours, or some swelling over a period of a few days.
- Final treatment results should be evident within 10 to 14 days after treatment for spider veins and within five to 10 days after treatment for spots or skin texture.
- You should not use any exfoliating agents on treated skin for a week following treatment, and always wear sunscreen on treated areas.
